Deduction: A conclusion based on logic and reasoning. That is what math is... in a word.
What happened here? Seriously, what is going on?
What is going to happen next?
Logic can be used for more than cat pictures and internet searches.
What is the missing angle?
What is the missing angle?
You will need a little help with some given information. Short cuts are nice and a BIG part of math.
You will need to know that angles that are across from each other are called vertical angles--more importantly they are congruent. That will help a lot with your assignment.
When 2 angles are on a straight line they are called a linear pair. Interesting right?
PS. The dude is smart because linear pairs do add to 180 degrees

Now putting it all together.
Do I know enough to figure out w, x and y?
180 - 85 - 42 = w = 53 (b/c all triangles add to 180)
180 - 53 = x = 127 (b/c linear pairs add to 180) Now that we know w =53 we can use vertical angles to solve for y 180 - 53 - 88 = y = 39 (b/c of vertical angles and linear pairs) |
Surely, this is not figurable. Maybe you could solve it with some super formula like Calculus, but in Math II NO WAY!! Am I right?
